I guess I should have done more longer distance training sooner - but life...

The lack of bigger (for me) miles over recent weeks meant I have had to cram more into this week. Yesterday saw me lapping Hyde Park in 30 degrees plus, which was pretty tough going. I had chosen the 350 acre Royal Park as I couldn't bear the humiliation that would undoubtedly have been heaped upon me by lycra clad Cavendishes in Richmond Park (I sensibly went there during the week); I also thought that Hyde Park was flatter than it actually is.

So, yes, quite a tough ride.

The heat does make me think a bit harder about proper hydration - replacing electrolytes etc - so I have some fizzy tablets to chuck into the water bottle. Hard to tell if they make any difference other than making the water bottle leak a bit, and taste slightly sweet, but I'm sticking with them.

Then this morning, we had close to 5 hours of coaching (including setup and packing away) the younger girls' age groups at Spencer. It was really hot; attention was pretty good considering, but a lot of them flagged after a bit. I too have flagged and spent most of this afternoon sitting very still (and sipping on a hydration drink).

Here's hoping for a slightly cooler day next Sunday when my date with Ditchling Beacon (or Bitchling Deacon) beckons - a reminder that you can support Spencer CC's outreach work by donating here.

14/6 NOTE

Yes - electrolytes do make a difference; they are a mild laxative. Note to self - read dosage advice.
